Three Weeks Until the Conference: Update

It’s almost here and I’m so excited to see familiar faces again and meet new folks. We have an incredible conference lined up. Can’t wait for the day to come.
I wanted to take a minute to tell you a little about our two daytime featured presenters.
Ghada AL-ABSYغادة العبسي(fiction writer; Egypt), a physician, is the author of several novels and short story volumes, among them, حشيشة الملاك [Angelica] and الفيشاوي [Al-Fishawi]. The collection أولاد الحور[The Sons of Nymphs] won the 2014 Organization of Cultural Palaces competition; بيت اللو [“House of Almond”] won the 2016 Short Story Egyptian Club competition. Her novel الإسكافي الأخضر [The Green Cobbler] was a runner-up for the 2016 Akhbar Al-Adab Prize. From 1999 to 2003 she was a soloist at the Cairo Opera House. She participates courtesy of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.
MIKE SCALISE’s work has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Agni, Indiewire, Ninth Letter, The Paris Review Daily, and other places. He’s an 826DC advisory board member, has received fellowships and scholarships from Bread Loaf, Yaddo, and the Ucross Foundation, and was the Philip Roth Writer in Residence at Bucknell University. His memoir, The Brand New Catastrophe, was the recipient of The Center for Fiction’s 2014 Christopher Doheny Award. Read more about Mr. Scalise.
